February 2017 Favourites

I’ve started going out and about a bit ore often to do some business head shots, this month included James from Canvas Loft Bar, Dave from Cosy Club Bournemouth and John from Nationwide. But, we can’t forget those wonderful families! I welcomed back the Lilywhites after photographing them 6 years ago! They even brought the print I had originally shot for them – they’ve all grown up so much.

I love to work with so many local Bournemouth & Poole businesses helping to create some unique marketing photography & event coverage imagery, this month was no exception working with Ward Goodman and the Venus Awards to name a few…

February 2nd saw a George Michael ‘Too Funky’ Charity Extravaganza at Canvas Loft Bar in Bournemouth & I was lucky enough to go and photograph this incredible event! In memory of the late George Michael, Darren Northeast PR had gathered together a group of local singers and performers for a night of fantastic music to celebrate the life of one of the UK’s most successful singer-songwriters.

The idea behind the event was to raise money for two charities; The British Heart Foundation and Childline – which was one of George’s favoured charities. All monies raised from tickets will be donated with 50% going to each organisation. A whopping £5,050 was raised! How amazing is that

January 2017 Favourites

Usually January is a quiet month….. but not for me! I’ve been out and about shooting lots of Marketing and Advertising Photography for businesses, and covering Local Bournemouth Events.

I went down to Taylor Made Designs office in Christchurch Industrial Estate to photograph some new website and marketing imagery for them, they produce everything from workwear, gym wear to promotional merchandise – they have such a huge collection of products that they produce they have an entire showroom full of them! While I was there I also ventured into their factory and warehouse to capture their machines and workers in action.

I spent an entire morning at TMD’s show room, I even had time to create a pop up photo studio and capture a set of team head shots.

In January, Pure Networking launched a brand new networking event, a late lunch on a Friday afternoon at Koh Thai, Bournemouth….and I was there to photograph it! A fantastically busy launch event, with seriously yummy food (Koh’s crispy beef is my weakness!) and not to mention still enough time to get back to the office to finish work before the weekend. Here’s to many more!

The Angel Pub, located right next to Poole Guildhall had it’s re-launch event. New owner, Emma, welcomed VIP guests to sample the new food menu, see the new decor and have some bubbles!

I had to include some of the best studio portrait images from January in my blog….. I am STUDIO Shotz after all. Had a lot of Actors’ Head Shots booking in this month, updating their portfolios for the years auditions, here’s just a few of my favourite shots…

December Favourites

With the weather finally turning a bit colder, we’ve been indoors this month! In the studio, we’ve been shooting loads of portraits – a couple of my favourite studio portraiture sessions have been actors head shots, especially the brother and sister session shown below.

Delighted to welcome back Steve Whale to the studio, I’ve forgotten how many photo shoots Steve has had with us; all his business head shots, musician duos (more than one!), a couple photo shoot with his wife, oh & I even photographed his wedding! Great to have you back in the studio again Steve, this time with fellow singer Emma for their duo 2’s a Crowd.

When Claire from Brutal Events first emailed me, I’d started planning her photo shoot before she’d even booked in! Claire is a ultra endurance triathlete and needed some promotional images for advertising & charity events she was to be appearing at. We shot everything from happy & smiling head shots through to some gritty portraiture. Next up, we’ll be shooting some location imagery – can’t wait!

With Christmas quickly approaching, December is always full of Kids, Families and Personal Photography for the holiday season. I welcomed SO many happy, smily faces through the studio doors in the month of December but these are definitely my favourite shots from all those shoots.

I may have been indoors more this month, but was still shooting out on LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION….

I attended the Lights on at Factory event, supporting my colleague and dear friend Samantha Acton from Domestic Angels who was delivering a seminar at the event. Read her blog post of the event here; http://domangelsuk.blogspot.co.uk/2016/12/lights-on-at-factory-supporting.html
The event was targeting emerging start-up businesses and budding entrepreneurs….. and of course, I couldn’t resist taking my camera.

I’d been invited to photograph the launch of the new Coast Newspaper at Canvas Loft Bar in Bournemouth (Who can’t resist free champagne, Koh Thai food and great music!) The venue was full to the brim, to the point where I literally couldn’t shoot properly as there were too many people……but we always manage 😉
The band were awesome, the food was amazing and everyone was so friendly – I don’t think The Coast could have asked for a better launch if they’d tried.

Last and by no means least, my favourite commercial client photo shoot this month; Photographing some new marketing and advertising imagery for Dr Jan Peters at the Captains Club Hotel in Christchurch. Jan is launching a new website and wanted some bespoke photography to showcase her coaching and facilitating services.

I also learnt in December that Jan has been awarded the MBE for services to women in science!! “Dr Peters, who lives in Christchurch, was honoured for her services to women in engineering and science following a career as a scientist, researcher, campaigner and volunteer”

November Favourites

November saw me braving the cold and going out on location a lot! Ali didn’t want the usual studio based business head shots, she works with businesses in the local area and wanted that to be a part of her imagery and personal branding. We took a (thankfully sunny!) November morning walk around Boscombe Pier and Beach and captured some new marketing images for her.

Blue Sky Financial Planning held a Seminar at the Harbour Hotel in Sandbanks, titled “How low can you go?” which felt apt for the day after Trump won the US Election. There were some interesting conversations that morning…

Through my links with Pure Networking, I met John, MD of Coversure Insurance in Poole. He was looking for some new Marketing & Promotion Images as well as new Team Head Shots – so I created a pop up studio in their basement! We don’t always stay in the studio, sometimes the studio can come to you…

After all that location work, I headed back to the studio for more business marketing head shots, for groups and individual shots. Great to welcome back Estate Agent Richard Godsell and new work for Think Create Do and South Coast Social.

Product photography is a major component in my Monday to Friday work; Every business selling online needs high quality images of their products. Many of the product shots I create for clients are just plain and simple white background images to show the products quality for selling.

Photographed a new bands promo imagery this month, The Diamond Night Band are a newly formed 4 piece Wedding & Function Band and needed some group shots for promoting themselves.

My weekends are full of Family Photo Shoots…. Most are energetic and playful, sometimes kids just sleep right through it all 😉

I WON the Venus Award for Networker of the Year!

Holy Cow Batman, I only went and won an award!

This year I was in the finals for Networker of the Year, sponsored by PlayGolf Bournemouth, a category that I’ve become quite passionate about. It’s a key way of developing your professional & social contacts, not just for yourself but for your already established connections too. The past year I’ve really stepped out of my comfort zone, literally, walking into rooms of people where I have known no one…

_mg_6043-copyThe Venus journey concluded at a glamorous Black Tie Ceremony and Gala Dinner at Bournemouth International Centre on Thursday 20th October 2016 . Dubbed the “Working Women’s Oscars” by Channel 4 and now in its seventh year in Dorset, the Venus Awards goes from strength-to-strength in discovering and recognising the talents of enterprising women. Competition was fierce this year with 785 nominations and applications across the 15 Award categories in Dorset.

However, it’s not the first time I’ve been in the Venus Awards Finals, it’s the third! Previously for Online Marketing and Networking! (Not to mention I’ve been in the semi-finals/short listed for everything from PR, online business, customer service and professional of the year!)

I enjoyed the Venus Night with my table; consisting of good friends, my family and some awesome business people that wanted to support me. Thank you for joining me Nick from Foxes Estate Agents, Andy from Gervis Accountants & Christchurch Chamber and Dion from Pure Networking! You all made the night truly memorable, hilarious and fun.

Public speaking scares me. I’m just no good at it, my mind goes blank & I lose my words… Thankfully I remembered to thank my mum “MUM, I LOVE YOU!” and the Venus Awards, but the nerves did get the better of me & I forgot to thank some key players, MAJOR WHOOPS.

img_1340-copyFirstly, I need to thank Pure Networking! That room I first walked into not knowing anybody, I can say that a year later they’re now clients, business contacts and friends. It is the most welcoming, friendliest & most FUN networking events I have ever attended. Why else would I sign up as their official photographer and attend every single event!?

I also need to thank CCTC (Christchurch Chamber of Trade & Commerce), I was delighted that Andy from Gervis, also CCTC’s Treasurer joined me at the Venus Gala, they’re one of the first local networking groups I really got associated with and have met some big influecnes in my business world there.

For obvious reasons I have to thank PlayGolf Bournemouth, especially Peter Gilbert (Thank you for the celebratory bubbles!) for choosing me as their winner. When waiting for our turn to be photographed and filmed as winner & category sponsor, I blurted out “But, why me!?”, “Your progression in the past year. You don’t have to introduce yourself any more, people already know Zelda the Photographer”. How awesome is that!

Lastly, however cheesy this may be, here it goes…. I need to thank my late Dad. He was the person that persuaded me at 21 years old, only 2 weeks after finishing my university degree, to set up my photography business with a high street shop! Talk about diving in at the deep end. There is no way I could have done what I’ve done without you.

Thanks for Venus Awards for the above photographs

October Favourites

October was definitely heavy on commercial workload this month, working on product shots, imagery for marketing, head shots and events but we never stop seeing families at the weekends…

Was great to welcome back The Travel Wrap Company for more Product Shots of their new Winter 2016 collection, New staff head shots for Jigsaw Interior Design over in Poole & we shot some new Marketing imagery for Blue Sky Financial Planning at their offices over at Coy Pond.

Every year, RICS, The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, has their annual Gala this year we supplied the Photography for the Event at the new Bournemouth Hilton.

Probably my favourite photo shoot this month, I welcomed Terry & Rachael from Stanford Road to the studio for a promo photo shoot. This pair are a Husband and Wife Americana Duo, the shoot was relaxed, fun, and very silly – don’t think I’ve laughed this hard at work in ages!

September Favourites

September 2016 has been a busy month, the rush of business updates and marketing makes a photographer the #1 call of the month!

To start off, we’ve seen loads of new head shots – actors, musicians, dancers. Fantastic to welcome back 2 old clients for updates on their head shot portraits; George a local acoustic guitar musician, and Rosie an aspiring actress! Here’s just a selection of my favourite shots from this month’s head shots;

This month I visited Blue Sky Finance over in their beautiful offices in Poole. We were creating some new marketing and promotional images for them to use throughout their online presence, I particularly enjoyed the “client experience” photo series showing the journey as a Blue Sky client.

Lastly, we welcomed lots of lovely families into the studio for some personal keepsake photo shoots. As you’ve probably noticed, we don’t always stay in the studio! Phil & his family were on holiday in Christchurch (they’re getting married at the Priory next year) and wanted to use that as their backdrop!

The finalists of this year’s Dorset Venus Awards Revealed – and I’m one of them!

Absolutely delighted to be a finalist in this year’s Venus Women Awards! I’m in the PlayGolf Bournemouth judged Category of Networker of the Year, up against 2 other very inspirational Dorset business women. I’m looking forward to the Awards Ceremony so much, I even have my dress picked out already!

The Finalists Announcement saw over 100 guests that included Semi-Finalists, Sponsors and guests who were treated to an afternoon tea in the Cumberland Hotel’s stunning art-deco surroundings. Where I was also taking photos!

The Awards in Dorset were launched at Playgolf Bournemouth in April this year and participants have been whittled down to the Finalists stage by either sponsor judging or public voting. Sponsors and candidates have attended a variety of events over the intervening months to reach this point. The Awards celebrate the vital contribution that women in business make to the local, regional, and national economy. The Awards are unique in that anyone can nominate a friend, client or family member.

The Venus journey will culminate in a glamorous Ceremony and Gala Dinner to be held at Bournemouth International Centre on Thursday 20th October 2016 with this year’s charity sponsor BOO, whose aim is to help African children who are disadvantaged through economic poverty.
